Virtual Media

Remotely Transfer Local Data To and From Remote Servers

Virtual Media and the rest of the DS-features are important functions to businesses that are trying to control physical access to data centers for security reasons.

By giving an administrator the capability to stay in his or her chair and perform tasks remotely, such as installing or patching applications or the OS, or rebooting the remote server across the network using a boot file accessed from a local PC, virtual media eliminates unnecessary trips into the data center.

The Avocent implementation of virtual media into the DS xx30 Series maintains the out-of-band access and OS independence that is the cornerstone of their centralized server management solutions.

With Virtual Media capability through and the DSRxx30 Series of Switches, administrators can remotely load software by mapping a local removable media or mass storage device to a remote server. This allows file transfers, application and OS patches, and diagnostic testing from a CD.

Virtual Media allows organizations to run remote locations without having to staff them with highly qualified techs. With the BIOS and Console level control of the DSView 3 software coupled with the Virtual Media capable Switches plus the Power over IP, you can do everything from your desk except actual hardware repairs ... and do it in real time!
